10 Arrests after protest degenerates into riots

Demonstrations against the old policy degenerated into heavy riots on Friday October 15th. Residents of Cryptonix are not satisfied with the policy and demand a new one. They want the two islands to separate and gain their own independence.

Last Friday thousands of demonstrators took to the streets for the independence of the two islands. For years, there have been conflicts between the islands of Cryptonix. The inhabitants are furious and demand to have their say. "We are not moving with the times and that is not what Cryptonix stands for. It is time for change", responded one protester.

The demonstrations led to violent confrontations among the residents, leaving the police with no option but to arrest them. Protesters stormed the Capitol and threw whatever they could at the police. Footage shows demonstrators attacking each other and the police with sticks and stones. Police arrested a total of 10 protesters for assault.

This is not the first time residents have demonstrated for a new policy. In 2019, there was already talk of the independence of the two islands, but this had never been mooted, according to the Prime Minister.

"The old policy works and together we are much stronger. We are growing much faster as an united country”, said Prime Minister Anton Cray.

He is disappointed how the protest has gone and he was hoping for the two islands to work together and be united. "I am sure if the islands stay together, we will come out stronger and the future will offer us more", he said. The government will meet on Wednesday afternoon to find a solution that benefits both islands.
