Hundreds of migrants rescued off the coast of Cryptonix

On the night of Thursday to Friday, migrants near the Cryptonix border tried to cross en masse by boat. That could have been fatal, but at that moment a ship sailed by and rescued more than 200 people.

According to the coast guard, 276 people were rescued who tried to make the crossing from Medicasco to Cryptonix in a small boat. They almost didn't make it because of the weather conditions and the badly built boat. One of the members of the coast guard reported that he saw a light burning from a distance and had to go and see what it was. When he arrived, he almost saw one of the boats overturned by a large wave. He immediately sprang into action and called the rest of the coast guard for help. Unfortunately, the coast guard was unable to rescue everyone. The next morning, a boat docked with 6 people that did not make the crossing. Among the refugees were 4 women and 2 men.

It is not the first time that the coast guard receives an emergency call about refugees trying to make the crossing.

"It is a problem that needs to be addressed. In Cryptonix, the refugees are more than welcome and we will offer them a life that every human being deserves" said Interior Minister.

According to the Commissioner General for Refugees, more than 2,000 refugees have already ventured across the Etuiqoise Sea from Medicasco this year. In 2020, there were 1,500 refugees of whom more than 100 did not make it.
